1995 Attack of the Killer B-Movies with Elvira

Attack of the Killer B-Movies is an NBC prime time special that aired on Saturday, September 2, 1995 at 8pm. The special was hosted by Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and featured several stars from NBC's teen-centric comedy series, including Dustin Diamond and Natalia Cigliuti (Saved by the Bell: The New Class), William James Jones and Kelly Packard (California Dreams) and Megan Parlen (Hang Time). It was written by Frank Conniff, with "Special Material" written by Elvira performer Cassandra Peterson.

In the tradition of Mystery Science Theatre, the special consisted of Elvira and the teens making jokes, gags and one-liners about 4 films that have been colorized and heavily edited to fit half hour segments. The films are The Wasp Woman (1959) starring Susan Cabot, Killers from Space (1954) starring Peter Graves, Monster from Green Hell (1957) featuring music by Albert Glasser, and The Navy vs. the Night Monsters (1966) starring Mamie Van Doren.

The hosts comes across as an awkward combination with Elvira seated alone on the opposite side of the room, all but removed from interaction with the teens, who are seated together on a couch. You can watch the somewhat entertaining and campy 2 hour special with commercials below. Video was uploaded by YouTube user ekim bazray.

1930-1960 Spook Show Theater Trailers

Between the 1930s-1960s movie theaters would have live shows that featured magicians performing magic tricks, séances, special effects and scary skits. This was at a time when people were unaware of how these seemingly incredible tricks were pulled off and it was a relatively new form of entertainment before the invention of the haunted attraction. Many of these spook shows doubled with horror movies and played at smaller movie theaters during the Halloween season or different parts of the year. This video of trailers were shown in theaters before the horror movie. Some of this stuff is genuinely scary, especially in a dark theater. Eventually these shows would incorporate bloody special effects and sometimes be referred to as Midnight Horror Shows. The shows were daring for their time, but would phase out by the end of the 1960s. This video was put together by Something Weird Video, some of the trailers featured are:

Dr. Rome The Ghostmaster in person
Halloween Convention of Spooks
Black Magic African Doctors
Chamber of Horrors

1959 Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow

A fun corny 1959 American International Pictures comedy/horror film with teenage hot-rodders, a malt shop, a talking parrot, twangy guitar rock n roll music and a Halloween dance party in a haunted house. During the Halloween party, look out for two monsters from other 1950's drive-in films, the She-Creature wearing gym shoes and someone with a Saucer Men mask on:

1986 Horrible Horror

Zacherley, the Cool Ghoul, hosts a collection of mostly public domain trailers and clips from over 50 cult films, camp horror films, sci-fi films as well as TV serials from the '30s through to the '60s. The whole video is tremendously entertaining but some of the best parts include Zacherley's segments, fun rare bloopers and outtakes from Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein and a section dedicated to Bela Lugosi including rare interviews, a Betty Boop clip with Dracula and clips of Lugosi's movies including The Ape Man, Bride of the Monster, Glen or Glenda, The Phantom Creeps and Spooks Run Wild. Officially released on VHS in 1986 by Good Times Video but no DVD release.

1995 Creepy Clips from Over 40 Classic Horror Films

Creepy Clips is a VHS video released in 1995 that contains a collection of clips from horror movies made in the 1950's all strung together by cheesy keyboard music and spooky effects. Contains clips of haunted houses, vampires, werewolves, skeletons, giant monsters, freaks of science, experiments gone wrong, zombies and mad ghouls. A great video to play in the background to liven up a Halloween party.

1992 & 1995 The Three Stooges Fright Night

This is a recreation of two Halloween TV specials that originally aired on TBS in 1992 and again in 1995. Starring The Three Stooges: Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard or Shemp Howard, a comedy act best known for their numerous short subject films that were made for Columbia Pictures between 1934 and 1959. The 1992 version of the Halloween special features the following four frightening Stooges shorts, "If a Body Meets a Body," "We Want Our Mummy," "Dopey Dicks," and "Three Pests in a Mess".

If a Body Meets a Body (1945) - look out for the funny Halloween related scene, the bird in the flying skull:

We Want Our Mummy (1939) - look out for the Curly dressed up as a mummy scene:

Dopey Dicks (1950) - look out for the mad scientist in need of human brains for his ghastly experiment:

Three Pests in a Mess (1945) - look out for the spooky cemetery scenes:

1995 The Three Stooges Fright Night

The 1995 version includes the first 2 shorts above: "If a Body Meets a Body," "We Want Our Mummy," plus the 3 following shorts: "Spooks!," "The Hot Scots" and "Malice in the Palace."

Spooks! (1953) This version is in Red Cyan 3D - look out for the mad scientist Dr. Jeckyl and his assistant, Mr. Hyde, who keep a gorilla for experimental purposes:

The Hot Scots (1948) - this short takes place in a spooky haunted castle:

Malice in the Palace (1949) - look out for Larry's cooking skills:

6 hour Halloween Special Marathon from the Official @threestooges YouTube channel:

I love these guys so much. I don't remember seeing these specials air on Halloween but growing up in the 80's channel 38 in Boston would have a 6 hour Three Stooges marathon every New Years Eve.

1988 Grampa Munster's Silly Scaries - 1989 More Silly Scaries

Here we have two videos starring Al "Grampa Munster" Lewis hosting a collection of classic animated shorts from 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. The first 60 minute video is called Grampa's Silly Scaries and contains the following eight shorts:

1. "A Haunting We Will Go" (1949) staring Casper the Friendly Ghost.
2. "The Cobweb Hotel" (1936) about a spider catching flies.
3. "The Mad Doctor" (1933) starring Mickey Mouse.
4. "The Impatient Patient" (1942) starring Daffy Duck.
5. "Hollywood Capers" (1935) staring Beans, with a caricature of Frankenstein's monster.
6. "Mummies Boys" (1965) starring The 3 Stooges animated.
7. "Fright To The Finish" (1954) staring Popeye, Bluto and Olive on Halloween.
8. "The PincushionMan" (1935) about balloons terrorized by pins.

1988 Grampa Munster's Silly Scaries:

The second video, which is a sequel to the first, is called More Silly Scaries. It contains the following six shorts:

1. "I Don't Scare" (1956) starring Popeye, Bluto and Olive on Friday the 13th.
2. "The Friendly Ghost" (1935) starring Casper.
3. "Magic Mummy" (1933) starring Tom and Jerry (not the cat and mouse).
4. "The Raven" (1942) based on Edgar Allan Poe's famous poem.
5. "Gypped In Egypt" (1930) starring Waffles the Cat and Don the Dog.
6. "Is My Palm Read?" (1933) starring Betty Boop.

1989 More Silly Scaries with Grampa Munster:

The Munsters was one of my favorite shows and even though he appears in poor white face powder, cheap costumes and a blue screen set with horridly made backgrounds and effects, it was a real treat to see Al Lewis as Grampa Munster once again.

1955 Disney's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with Intro

This version of Disney's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was an episode of the "Disneyland" TV series that originally aired on October 26th, 1955 but this video was recorded from the Disney Channel in the early 90's. The cool things about this video is it begins with an animated history of the life of author Washington Irving and is hosted by Walt Disney himself. I remember this airing on the Disney Channel on Halloween night. I so wish this version was available on DVD. Part 1 below contains the history of Washington Irving and Parts 2 and 3 contain the first and second half of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow animated Disney special.

Update here is just the intro and animated history of Washington Irving:

1951 To Boo or Not to Boo - Casper, the Friendly Ghost

Here is a 6 minute Halloween cartoon I really enjoyed watching when I was younger: it stars Casper the Friendly Ghost.

In the short, Casper wants to have fun on Halloween by making friends rather then scaring people like other ghosts on Halloween. He trys to go trick-or-treating with the other kids; but his ghostly transparency gives him away and everyone runs away from him in fear. Upon coming to a Halloween costume party at a barn, Casper coats himself in white wash to hide his transparency, and proceeds to enter the party incognito. Inside, he meets a little girl named Lou, who instantly took a shine to him; but will it last? Watch it and see.

So, I love this cartoon! It's a classic! A real heart warmer around Halloween time.

1955 The Red Skelton Show - Halloween Special

Those of you who love classic films and the days of classic TV should already know who Red Skelton is, but if you don't then watch this great Halloween episode from his variety show named after the former circus clown himself, The Red Skelton Show. I'm sure you'll laugh out loud.
